About me

Illustrated portrait of Mallory Keaton

Medical claims auditor at a regional health insurer, about six years into the role. Days are spent reading dense paperwork closely enough to catch a miscoded line, which turns out to be good training for reading dense books closely too.

I audit medical claims for a regional health insurer, which means most of my working hours go to matching billing codes against chart notes line by line. It is exact, unglamorous work, and I think it is why a five hundred page book about propaganda models or development economics does not scare me off the way it scares off some people. I read fast and I read across genres on purpose, science fiction one week, a doorstop fantasy novel the next, something dense and academic after that, because I get bored fenced into one shelf. Board games are the other half of this site. I've got a regular two-player rotation with my friend Priya, who picks a game apart afterward better than most reviewers I've read online, and a bigger Thursday group for anything that actually needs four or five people at the table. I keep a spreadsheet of what we've played and when, mostly so I stop forgetting.

Where I am: Tulsa, Oklahoma

Reading log and game night spreadsheet both live on paper first. I move them online eventually, usually months later.

What's here

Book reviews, board game reviews, and personal essays. No schedule, no affiliate links, nothing sponsored. I write about a book or a game after I've actually finished it and have something to say, which is why the dates on here are irregular.
